Dear Friends

Good morning from Zhaoqing…..arrived back yesterday afternoon on train (which took 4 hours and 3 minutes….and hit speed of 180km between
Shenzhen and Guangzhou!)

Before Breaking of Bread with Rosa H & Magdalene this morning I went for lovely walk ….along roadway at base of hills – towards Marco Polo – in light rain, everything green, Summer flowers – good to be home!

Today and next few days are rather full…so this little update is rather brief.
In full diary report next week I’ll try to put HK/Australia photos + recent donations + other news

Many thanks to all kind friends of past 25 days….in Hong Kong and Australia.   Especially DG for safety and good health and wrong buses!
- e.g. two afternoons ago in HK I went  shopping for people here who asked for medicines etc (that can’t be bought locally).  Went to more than a dozen shops/chemists/department stores looking for one particular item for a very sick boy….couldn’t find it anywhere….finally gave up and bought something sort of similar.  Got tunnel bus from Central in HK…but after bus crossed tunnel it went to Kowloon City ferry, not Ma Tau Wei…I was on wrong bus and had to walk about 30 minutes to get back to Notre Dame…..and on the way?....passed a chemist shop …and sure enough…they had the medicine I was after….which I wouldn’t have found if I hadn’t got the wrong bus!

Have to run. Thank you for a prayer

God bless!

Dear Friends

Good morning from Melbourne….still enjoying kind hospitality of Oblates at 649 Burke Road.
I’m due to go to Brisbane on Saturday (Aug 11), then to Hong Kong on Aug 14, then Zhaoqing Aug 16 – DV

Thank you Fr Michael Clark (Aug 2) & Fr Harry Dyer (Aug 5)  for kind donations of AUD$100 and AUD$150
to support our work for the poor in China

Last update I forgot:  thank you Lord for all-clear from all health checks/tests!

July 31:  A-Pui (http://china8.org/zhaoqing07/07/2007-07-09mon.htm) went home to Heaven….from where may her prayers help us each day

Photo reports of the past week  -  in next full diary Aug 18 DV

Most, most important article re church in China  maybe the best in recent times: http://ncrcafe.org/node/1252

If you’re wondering why I dissociated myself from Ben’s letter to China and felt the letter would do more harm than good (diary  July 5, 2007)
- despite ill-informed news services like CathNews carrying “well-received” reports – well, here’s the start of what will probably be many such stories:

Small world: went for a walk last night….saw large crowd outside local Camberwell  picture theatre….reason?...Australian premiere of “Bourne Ultimatum”…with special guest just arriving on the footpath -  Matt Damon  - who, today’s Guardian says, is no. 1 actor for value:

Thank you for a prayer

God bless!
