2005-06-24   Spot the difference:

Hong Kong media caused many friends to phone  saying "Be careful....you're in great danger in Zhaoqing....floods & heavy rain are  dangerous in your city".  One HK school group even cancelled tour due to travel by bus to Zhaoqing today, due to  stay one night

The situation on the ground / in the water in Zhaoqing:
Yes,  HK ferry was cancelled because river had risen so high.
Yes, a few badly drained roads had some very minor flooding.
Yes, there was  some flooding on far side of river.
Yes, road beside river on city side closed to normal traffic

But .....river on city side was still  more than 2 metres below bank.
and....99.9% of traffic in city flowed, so to speak, as normal

In first photo, notice  people using  umbrellas....for the sunshine!
(Not one drop of rain yesterday....)

There was serious flooding in many other parts of China....but not in Zhaoqing city, brother media....your inaccuracy caused unnecessary fear .....a common theme in today's Western media?
See excellent article "Media Fear Mongers" which includes quote:

“The more fear you make,” he says, “the more loot you take.”
