Thursday March 8, 2012     Dear Friends

Good evening from Hong Kong. Happy International Women's Day today....somewhat surprisingly, but very pleasingly, a very important day in the Mainland: e.g. at many primary schools, female teachers have half a day's holiday!

On this 8th of the month,  Dear Lord,  please bless the people of Heilongjiang

Smile:  At the top of today's menu on www.v2catholic.com   I put "International Women's Day".
But then the first item on the menu, by pure chance - not design, was Called to be a Man Alive !

Today has been a school day for me: a.m. at Notre Dame College for mini drug seminar for some 140 Form 5 students.
Then in the afternoon the usual double English class for 22 primary girls (half of them Primary One)....where...fittingly for Women's Day...we continued our study of the famous Chinese heroine, Mulan!

Speaking of little girls:  8 year old Petrina is still in coma at a local hospital. Brain dead. Parents hoping for miracle.
Please continue to pray for Petrina: Jesus, please heal Petrina!

Next meeting to pray for healing will be this Sunday March 11.  (Photo of Nov 13 group)

Now available in HK: "Honey ginger tea", "Honey lemon tea", "Honey aloe tea"....beautiful, no side effects like
coffee and ordinary tea. But...for the life of me...."honey ginger" etc is just marmalade jam in a bottle labeled "tea"!

Chapter 21-22

As the Israelites continued their journey,
a number of kings did battle with them.

One of these was Og, king of Bashan.

God said to Moses:
"Do not be afraid of him, for I have given him
into your power".
Israel then easily defeated Og and occupied his land.

The king of Moab also wanted to attack the Israelites,
but before attacking, he consulted Balaam son of Beor
who was a type of prophet and could see the future.

Several times the king asked Balaam to curse the Israelites,
but each time he blessed them,
because this is what God told him to do:

"You are not to curse this people, for they are blessed".

The king then summoned Balaam to his presence.

Balaam began his journey to the king, travelling on a donkey.

God sent an angel with a sword to block Balaam's way.
The donkey could see the angel,
so she left the road to make a detour.

Balaam hit her and made her return to the road.
On the road the donkey again saw the angel
and just lay down on the road.

Balaam was very angry and hit her with a stick.

Then God made the donkey speak:
"Why did you hit me?  Haven't I always been faithful to you?"

God  now opened Balaam's eyes
and he saw the angel with a sword.

Balaam realized that the donkey had saved his life.

The angel then told Balaam to continue his journey
but to say to the king only what God said to say.

21~22

Thursday March 1, 2012     Dear Friends

Good afternoon from Hong Kong where politics is just as "complicated" as anywhere else.
Where did Februry go? As the years go on, time seems to go faster....

On this 1st of the month,  Dear Lord,  please bless the people of Anhui

True Ash Wednesday story - from some years ago on Lantau Island: little girl, in mother's arms, after receiving
ashes on Ash Wednesday, said to mother: "Father very naughty. He put dirt on my head"!

Prayers please for 8 year old girl fighting for her life in a local hospital:
"Dear Jesus, please heal Petrina!"  Thank you, so many people in HK and other places
for continuing to pray for Petrina

Chapter 21      Listen to Chapter 21

In order to avoid the land of Edom,
the Israelites headed towards the coastline.

But the people again criticized God and Moses.

So God sent  snakes among the people
and many people died.

The people then said to Moses
"We have sinned; please pray for us to save us".

Moses prayed for them, and God heard his prayer.

God told Moses to make a bronze snake and put it on a pole.

Anyone bitten by a snake could then look at the bronze snake
and live

Thursday February 23, 2012     Dear Friends

Good morning from Hong Kong, where lovely light rain is falling

On this 23rd of the month,  Dear Lord,  please bless the people of Guangxi

Prayers please for 8 year old girl fighting for her life in a local hospital:
"Dear Jesus, please heal Petrina!"

Smile - True story: last night at Tung Wah Hospital, I visited 3 dear friends who have Motor Neuron Disease
(MND - ALS - Lou Gehrig's Disease): Michael, John and Candy. Thank you for prayers for them...
John had just finished having some sort of congee. He asked me for pen and paper (he can't speak).
Then he wrote, very slowly and with difficulty:
"could - you - please - help - me"....to which I replied, verbally,  "I course I will".
He kept writing "- get - back - my-"
....and I thought to myself...the next word will be "health" (that's what I pray with him for each week).
Then two words appeared "-
green - spoon"!
Someone had accidentally taken it when cleaning up after the meal.
That was an easy item to retrieve. May John's health also soon be retrieved!

Chapter 20    Listen to Chapter 20

The Israelites arrived at Kadesh in the desert of Zin.
They had no water, and complained bitterly to Moses and Aaron.

Moses and Aaron pleaded with God for help.
God told Moses to hit a rock with a branch
and in this way order the rock to give water.

Water did in fact flow when Moses hit the rock,
but through lack of faith Moses hit it twice.

So God said to Moses and Aaron:
"Because you did not fully trust me,
therefore you will not lead the people
to the promised land".

When the Israelites moved on from Kadesh,
they asked the Edomites for permission to go through their land.
But the Edomites refused this request.

Later,  on Mount Hor, Aaron died
and was succeeded as High Priest by his son Eleazar

Smile - True story:
Last Monday at a meeting at St Paul's House of Prayer in Sheug Shui,
I found that one of the toilets was not flushing.
The flush button on top of toilet was not working...in fact was not connected.
So (after using a rubbish bin to flush the toilet) I did my good neighbour thing,
took the lid off the toilet, put it over the bowl to stop other people having problems
....then told the sister in charge about the difficulty.
She went to the toilet (well, you know what I mean)
...and waved her hand over a magic light on the wall
....and the toilet flushed...so did I!
These new-fangled toilets!

Thursday January 26,  2012     Dear Friends

Happy Lunar New Year of the Dragon from Hong where I arrived back yesterday morning.
Usually when leaving HK for Australia, I visit the prayer room at HK airport to say a little prayer.
Yesterday at 6.15am I again visited the prayer room to say a thank you prayer.
Overnight flight was a chance for plane prayer

Many thanks again to my dear brother Peter and his wife Yvonne and family
(& to OMI community at Iona College) for kind hospitality.
See photos below of a very happy baptism and baptism party

Today is also Australia Day.    The name "Australia" comes from a Portuguese navigator named Pedro
and was originally "the great south land of the Holy Spirit"

gathered outside the China Liaison Office in Hong Kong to express their anger.
Some chanted that it was better to be a dog in Hong Kong than a human on the mainland (!?!)

Another rebellion broke out when Korah
and his group of  250 men rebelled against Moses and Aaron.

This group said “You take too much on yourselves.
The whole community is consecrated.
How can you say you are more important than the community?”

The next morning this group and other rebels
were punished by God:
the ground where the Korah group were standing split open
and they disappeared into the hole.

The other rebels died when a fire came down from heaven
and consumed them

Thursday, January 19,  2012     Dear Friends

Good morning from the Gold Coast in Australia. My holiday coming to an end. Due to return to HK next Tuesday Jan 24....which is the second day of the Lunar New Year.
I wish everyone a Happy Lunar New Year....the Year of the
Dragon!
Some LNY thoughts that I put in Ming Pao article published yesterday.

I thought about putting this
LNY smile in MP, but decided against it:
A tramp, cold and hungry, knocked on door of an inn called "George and the
Dragon".
Lady opened door, but after seeing and hearing the tramp, she slammed the door.
Tramped knocked again. Lady again opened door.
Tramp to lady: "Would George be home please?"

On this 19th  of the month,  Dear Lord,  please bless the people of Shanxi

What do you call a line of men waiting for a haircut at the barber shop?
A BBQ! ("barbar-queue")

Vale two dear friends who went home to Heaven in the past week. May their prayers in Heaven
help us each day:

Jan 13, in Hong Kong: Fung Siu Fan ("A-Fan")....for many years a most loyal helper at Notre Dame Parish in Kowloon. She was here in my brother's house on Dec 30, 1994 when a pilgrimage group from HK visited Australia.  In this photo she is wearing white and is the row of people behind the two sofas....she has her hands on the right sofa (as you look at them in the photo).
She's also in this photo, middle row, first on left...in white...with lovely smile. Always smiling.
Funeral service: Sat Dec 28 in HK

Jan 16, in Canada - Regina.  Message from her daughter Karin:

It is with great sadness to announce that my mother, Regina Wai Kwan Pang Ho, passed away on Monday 16th January at 3:30am. It happened in the Palliative Ward at the Richmond General Hospital in Vancouver, BC.
There was very minimal suffering near the end and she eventually left peacefully during her sleep.
For those who are able join us in celebrating her life and bidding her farewell, we have arranged for her funeral service to take place this Friday 20th January.
Venue: St. Paul's Parish, 8251 St. Albans Rd, Richmond, V6Y 2L2.    Time: 10 - 11am
For those who are unable to attend, we hope that you can support us just the same. It is Mom's final wish to continue her fight against cancer.
Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please help support BC Cancer Foundation, an organization that my family is deeply indebted to (this is also open to those who are coming this Friday).
They have provided the utmost care and comfort for my Mom during her last days and I cannot thank them enough for their hard work.
I have set up an "In Memory" page in my mother's name on their website where you can read my mom's story and pledge a donation.
Please see below for the link.
http://donate.bccancerfoundation.com/site/TR/Events/Fuse?pxfid=10529&fr_id=1340&pg=fund
Alternatively, you can go to BC Cancer Foundation's website (www.bccancerfoundation.com), go to "Ways to Donate" and then click on "Donate to a Fundraising Page". On the new page, type in "Regina Pang" to search.

Regina was a founding member of the monthly gathering in HK to pray for the sick.
A couple of weeks ago when I phoned her, she said that in Heaven she will pray especially for that group

Smile   Recently I received an email from a former English student in China.

Chapters 13, 14      Listen to Chapters 13, 14

Moses sent some men to reconnoiter the land of Canaan .

After some weeks the men returned
and reported that the land was fertile and rich.

But most of the men also said that the towns of Canaan
were too well fortified for the Israelites to capture.
They said that the Canaanites were too strong for the Israelites.

Only Caleb and Joshua had the trust in God and courage
to do battle with the Canaanites.

Just as the rest of the people were thinking of stoning Joshua
and Caleb, the glory of God appeared at the Sacred Tent.

God then said that all the men aged twenty and over
who had refused to go to Canaan
would indeed never see Canaan
they would keep on traveling in the desert until they died.

Canaan would not be entered by the Israelites
until all the men aged twenty and over had died,
excepting Caleb and Joshua.

The reconnoiter men who inspired the rebellion
were all struck dead that day

Good morning from the Gold Coast in Australia.
Last year more than 200,000 visitors from China came to the Gold Coast

Once again....prayers please for Regina from Hong Kong, now in Canada. Regina was a founding member of our monthly meeting to pray for healing. For some years now Regina has been bravely fighting cancer. A couple of months ago she went to Canada to be with her parents. She is now in a special cancer hospital where, unless there is a last minute miracle, she will soon be leaving this life.  I phoned her this morning (Jan 12) and said a prayer with her. She is at great peace and on standby for an upgrade to eternal life in Heaven. Please join me in praying for Regina "Dear Jesus, may Regina feel your love in her heart. May your love fill her with hope, strength, courage and peace".
And to be honest, I can't stop praying for a last minute miracle....

Aaron's sister Miriam started complaining against Moses.

So God called Moses, Aaron and Miriam
to the Sacred Tent.

God said: "Moses is at home in my house
and I speak with him face to face.
You were wrong to speak against my servant Moses".

When God finished speaking
Miriam had become a leper.

Moses pleaded with God for Miriam.
Miriam was exiled from the camp for seven days
and then the leprosy left her

Smile - "Senior's Moment"
Last Friday I was looking forward to the very first use of my Queensland Senior's Travel Card.
As I got on a local bus, I put the card very carefully on the swipe machine next to the driver, but nothing happened. I turned the card over and tried the other side. Still nothing....except driver said "that's an unusual card". After putting some coins in the box near the swipe machine, I found a seat near the middle of the bus and sat down. As I looked more closely at the card, I saw the problem: it was not the travel card, but a phone card!

Internet connection: these days I'm using a memo stick modem from Vodafone ..can use anywhere, anytime...but only 3G for 4 weeks.....so...most days I use the Vodafone modem for a minimum amount of time....and do most of my work at McDonald's where.....although connections has a few hiccups....I can upload unlimited items to websites....just need to keep on reconnecting,  since each connection has a load limit (not a time limit)

Chapter 11      Listen to Chapter 11

Some of the Israelites started complaining
about not having meat to eat, only manna.

So God arranged for quails to land near the camp
and be easily caught for food.

About this time Moses selected seventy men
to help him care for the people.

God  blessed the seventy men and they began to prophesy.

Moses said "I wish the whole people of God could be prophets,
and God would give his Spirit to them all".
